Heart shaped treats that don't suck

PinotPlease Feb 12, 2011 07:31 PM

For Valentine's I always like to grab the Sweetie a heart shaped sweetie. Beyond the obvious, see's, Godiva, etc. Are there any awesome local bakeries that do anything interesting? Bonus points for any Hounds who know where to score hear-shaped Snickerdoodles, Red Velvet, Macrons or Key Lime pie!

Chicken hearts at Kokekokko. They even put an arrow though it (OK it's actually a bamboo skewer, but it's the thought that counts). Yum!

Village Bakery in Atwater has two different dark chocolate ganache covered heart cupcakes. One is made with chocolate cake and a peanut butter filling, the other is red velvet cake with cream cheese filling. The have posted pictures on their Facebook page if you want to check it out.

I think they also have some heart shaped hand pies as well.

Correction...they are not cupcakes. They are just mini cakes.

i think Platine Bakery in Culver City also does heart-shaped cookies.

Since you do not have too much time and you did not mention where you are located, you might try Whole Food's if you are near one, they have lovely desserts and probably have some Valentine Day choices.
If not, any good mom and pop bakery or candy store will have something for you I'm sure.
                Good Luck !
P.S. I do hope you made reservations for dinner !

I was in the El Segundo Whole Foods on Friday - they had quite a few heart-shaped dealies for V-Day. Red velvet, chocolate/raspberry cheesecake, cookies of various sorts, and lots of others I don't specifically remember. WF's bakeries products usually look good to very good. My one reservation would be that I find WF's baked goods in general to be okay to good. I don't think I've ever had anything there that I would rate very good to excellent.
