Anything good, at all, near Peoria AZ?

On a very short visit to Phoenix, I want to take out a friend who lives and works in Peoria. Is there a single recommendation for decent, hopefully better than decent, dining in that area, give or take
10 miles?

  1. Carolina's is my favorite place in Peoria, 91 st. Ave and Peoria ave.

    1. Based on very limited experience in that area, I would recommend Tutti Santi in the shopping area on the NW corner of 59th Ave and Utopia. It's above average Italian, for the area. Peoria is dominated by chains and more casual places. I have no complaint with Carolina's The food is great. But, you used the word "dining" in your request, and I assume you aren't looking to eat from a polystyrene carton. I've also had a good experience at La Piazza Al Forno, which is more casual than Tutti Santi. I would also like to give Haus Murphy another shot. Based solely on the food, Mi Comida is my favorite place in the area. It's a small, casual place that can require a little patience.

      Haus Murphy's of Glendale
      5739 W Glendale Ave, Glendale, AZ 85301

      Mi Comida Restaurante Latino
      4221 W Bell Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85053

      Tutti Santi
      19420 N. 59th Ave., Glendale, AZ 85308

      La Piazza Al Forno
      5803 W Glendale Ave, Glendale, AZ 85301

I'm visiting my parents near 91st Ave and Peoria next week. Is the Carolina's you mention here, the same as the one near 19th St and Mohave in Central Phoenix? (I doubt I would be able to make it down there during my short trip.)

Same great food with a nicer dining area, not that there is anything wrong with the original.

        1. In addition to John's great recs, I would add one of my favorite chef-owned steakhouses: Arrowhead Grill. We recently went to watch the game on Superbowl Sunday (free $25.99 prime Delmonico with purchase of a drink and side!) and had another excellent meal. Sat at the bar with great service from Phil. Shared the Kumamoto oysters and a new favorite appetizer - lamb chop fondue with rosemary and local Black Mesa Ranch goat cheese. Delmonicos were juicy and a perfect medium rare. Sides were a baked stuffed potato for E and cheesy shrimp and grits (so good) for me.
