Fondue

I've never had it and always wanted to try it. Any suggestions for a good place?

I am not an admirer of Loblaws, particularly; but their PC fondue is a snap to heat up and, quite frankly, beats many fondues I have paid 2 or 3 X for in restaurants, including the famed Artisanal in Manhattan. Just FYI if you want to try some at home before venturing out. All you need is a good baguette cut into pieces and a jug of wine: happiness!

I agree with you Bigtigger - not a fan of Loblaws in general but their "instant" fondue is not bad. The Leslieville Cheese Boutique could probably make one to order that would be more authentic.
Would love to hear more about your experiences at Artisanal in Manhattan - I love the city and its amazing repetoire of dining experiences - but I think we have the same here in Toronto if only we knew where they were!

Thanks for this tip. I'd been craving traditional fondue for a while but I didn't want to invest in the kirsch & have the possibility of failure. I bought this for Valentines and we loved it. It's actually pretty boozy, my kid who loves molten cheese in any form did not like it... More for the rest of us :)

Any comparisons between Bistro and Markt for their fondue? For me Beer Bistro's cheese fondue is ok but far from traditional. It's also not served in a fodue pot but rather a ceramic dish with just a candle below so it cools off really quick.

I love a good cheese fondue. It's a tradition for us on ski trips and we have fantastic go to spots at Tremblant, Whistler, Banff and Mont Sainte Anne. Would love to have a solid fondue place in Toronto but have yet to find one.

BeerMarkt fondue is a similar presentation to Bistro from what I recall (I did not have the fodue at Markt, a friend did). She said it was ok. Markt was having FondueFest at the time and there quite a number of different cheese fondue flavours being offered, I don't know if that is still the case.

Bier Market was great if you go, do try the goat cheese fondu, great flavour and texture. If you go let me know what you think. Tour boi

            3. Tati Bistro on harbord has it

              1. Thanks for the tips guys. Beer Bistro is near my office so I may check it out. On the other hand, Bigtigger's tip about the PC version has the Scot in me interested.

Is there anywhere in the city that serves the more traditional BROTH fondue? My kids and I love this meal, but have never heard on anywhere here that makes it. We always just make it at home

I picked up the Loney's Beef and Red Wine Fondue broth at Sobeys the other day,and it was qutie good. Sometimes we would like to go out for it too though...

                2. I'm not sure, but does Caren's Wine Bar do one? I've been there for their chocolate fondue before, and I think they might do cheese as well. I'd definitely call and confirm, as it's a very cute place and I love the ambience.
