German potato salad?

farmertomato Feb 11, 2011 05:48 PM

I really miss the old Atlas Sausage Company, late of Burbank Blvd in North Hollywood. I was particularly fond of their tangy German potato salad and would love to find something similar somewhere in the valley. Any suggestions?

I too, miss Atlas. I don't know of any place that makes a German potato salad like theirs, but I console myself with sausages from The European Sausage Factory, in a little industrial park on the south side of Saticoy just west of Coldwater. They also have several types of slab bacon which you can then make into your own German potato salad. Not the same, but still good.

I dunno if it's authentic German potato salad, but Cole's potato salad is awfully good and a pretty good facsimile of the original article.

it might seem odd - but chili addiction on la cienega has fantastic german potato salad. one of the owners uses his mom's recipe. they don't always make it - so call ahead.

cole's potato salad is one of my favorites - but it's not quite german potato salad.

Curious as to what your take on German potato salad is. In my experience there are two types: one is a warm mixture of potato, veg, bacon, and sweet-sour dressing. Second is a cold mixture of potato, veg, hard-boiled egg, julienne ham, and mayo.

Typically warm, with a tart bacon vinaigrette.
