August in the Inquirer

I was pleased to see Maryann and Maria of August (13th and Wharton) featured in the Valentine's Day article in the Inquirer.
These women run one of the most delightful restaurants in our city.
August is small and pretty, and the food is always delicious.
It is byob and cash only.
Recently they have added small plates for $10 in addition to their long-time favorites, which are moderately priced.
We usually have a tough time deciding what to order; we like so many things.
There are always a few pastas, and they are consistently excellent.
Maryann is the chef and Maria makes the desserts.
It's a small menu and as I said before - everything is good.
And when Maria makes her coconut custard pie, I'm in heaven. (I don't usually even like coconut custard pie!)
We find street parking with no problem.
There are some restaurants that we keep returning to over the years, knowing we will always be pleased. August is high on the list!

Yes. I agree. August is an unsung gem in Philly.
