In Ottawa for 2 nights. Any good brewpubs? Good food would be a bonus
Hey all, driving up to Ottawa for 2 nights tomorrow morning, staying at the Mariott downtown at Kent Street. Looking for a great place to get drunk on good quality beer, a good brewpub would be awesome, anything along the lines of Dieu du Ciel or Brutopia in Montreal? Good food would definitely be a plus, but I've already got plans to eat at Shawarma Palace on the first night :)
I'm being dragged to Honest Lawyer for at least a portion of the night due to the gf's sisters birthday party, any thoughts on that? I've heard good things about Local Heroes too as far as sports bars go.
Any thoughts/comments/suggestions, I'm all ears! Thanks in advance guys

If you're looking for a good selection of beer you could go to Pub Italia on Preston and work your way through the beer bible. I recommend a pint of the local brew Kichesippi or my favorite (somewhat) local Beau's. For food, stick to the mussels, pizza and pasta.

Shawarmas Place is excellent ! Nuthun fancy, but the freshly carved grilled meat is great. Tabbouleh and hummus are very good too. Probably the only "must eat" place in Ottawa.
Not quite what you are looking for, but The Black Tomato (11 George) and Chez Lucien (137 Murray) aren't brew pubs, but good places for a beer (or two). BT usually has CASK beer too !
The Scone Witch is a great breakfast or lunch spot. Interesting meat / cheese combos served on fantastic scones. Mmmmm mmm. Great for a grab and go on your way out of town.
Stay away from Wellington Gastro pub. The atmosphere is lame, the food is average to very bad, and the beer selection is weak. It has lots of hype and quite a few followers, but give it a pass.
Poppi-how many times have you eaten at Wellington Gastropub? Haven't been recently but the food in the past was always excellent and very well executed. I am curious to know whether there has been a drastic decline in quality or if you hit an off night. Can any Ottawa hounds chime in here?
And what about the atmosphere is lame? I've always found it cosy, lacking pretension, and the service has always been extremely professional.
As an aside, I would never recommend The Black Tomato to anyone seeking dining or drinking recs in Ottawa. I do like Chez Lucien.
re: Splendid Wine Snob
Your link isn't working. What was wrong with your meals exactly? Poor execution? Bad flavour combinations? Is Chris Deraiche still in the kitchen? I'm headed back to Ottawa soon so will definitely head back to see what's up...
Duckdown-you may also want to check out the Ottawa Foodies site for additional info on places to eat in Ottawa.
Edited to add: Oh yes, I found your link. I now remember reading that.
