Will be spending a day in the Newbury area. Any suggestions of good places to eat----asian, thai, pub meal, pizza---anything good! Any nice cafes?

Slightly out of town (which is a good thing) try The Pot Kiln (http://www.potkiln.org/), owned and run by the other Harwood Arms owners i.e. Brett Grahams partners. As you would expect it features lots of game.

There's The Vineyard at Stockcross.. near Newbury. I think it's a bit posh but haven't been there personally. I know that Simon liked The Pot Kiln quite a lot, and we've been meaning to try that one day, especially if we're in the area.

The Pot Kiln, a bit outside of Newbury, is affiliated with the Harwood Arms. The food is local and fresh and very nicely prepared, and the location is charming.

Otherwise, the area can be somewhat dire.
