San Antonio with kids?

Hi all-
My husband and I are heading to SA in 2 weeks with our 2 kids who are 2&4. We are trying to avoid all chains and tourist spots but would like to find some spots for early dinners (say 6pm) where we could take the kids and all have some great food. Healthy would be a plus (since I'm gluten and dairy free) but not a necessity - it is vacation after all! Thanks in advance :)

Don't have children, so not to sure on kid friendly places, but when you get here there is a family magazine for places and things to do in San Antonio that's free and the resort may have some copies. There is a place on Avenue B near the Witte Museum called Old Aussie. They sell baked goods as well as sandwiches and other things and have gluten free stuff.Go to San Antonio Express News in Google search, and get their website. This place was listed under the Food section of yesterday's paper. While they don't have a kiddie playground, Bracken Cafe, out in the little community of Bracken is northeast of San Antonio on Nacogdoches Road past Rolling Oaks Mall. They have a website I believe, and I know good burgers. You can also then drive to New Braunfels to Landa Park, which is nice.In the summer they run the miniature train around the park.

Thank you so much everyone - I really appreciate it. They all look yummy. All about 30min from the hotel from what I can tell - probably better to hit them while we are out and about.

Also try Scenic Loop Cafe. It's one of my personal favorites. There is also a kids area.

Might want to give La Hacienda a shot. Its not far from you either and it has a play area for kiddos.

It would be helpful to know where you are staying, if you have a car, what kind of food you're looking for, any budget issues.

That would be helpful! We are staying at the Hyatt Regency Hill Country - farther out than we would like but the trip was a gift. We will have our car and planned on hitting things like the zoo and museums each day so we would be in and around the area, but flexible. Budget isn't an issue but anyplace too upscale would likely be more stressful than enjoyable with the 2 little ones (basically anything without table cloths that our daughter can pull on would be great :) )
                Thanks again!

Right off the bat here's two suggestions if the weather is warm, they both have great outdoor play areas.
                  Bigz Burgers
                  Two Bros BBQ Market

Our standards (we also have a 2 and a 4 yr old)

The Yacht Club (1604 & NW Military) - full fenced in playscape for the kids. Decent food (nothing earth shattering) Kind of Baja Seafood type fare.

Bigz - (full play yard) - great burgers (one of the co-owners is one of the top chefs in the city with other restaurants).

The Cove - close to downtown - Was on Diner/ Drives. As far as the menu goes, I think you will appreciate it. Has a backyard for the kids. Sometimes live music. Very casual.

I actually logged in today to get an idea of other places around town that are like this as well. Looking for new ideas.

Just remember Willies Icehouse (several locations) - wings/beers/ burgers/onion rings/crawfish type place. Full sandbox. Good food. Not a fan of all the sand in my car though....
