Old Angler's Inn

Would like general input as well as whether this would be a good place for a family brunch (will be in late May so expect we can sit outside)

I have lived here for 25 years and I periodically go to Old Angler's hoping it will be better than the last time, because chef changed, someone wrote a decent review, etc. After all, it is a beautiful place, very romantic, outdoor seating for nice weather. A place you would love to love.

    It has been reliably disappointing.

    Here's an existing thread: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/169708

TripAdvisor ratings: 13 terribles, 2 poors, 2 averages, 1 very good, 2 excellent.

Supposedly new management as of 2009, and the two excellents were both in 2009 but a half dozen of the terrible ratings on TripAdvisor were 09-10.

Amazingly, Tom Power of the incredible Corduroy was once the chef at Old Angler's (97-99) but either I missed that or he wasn't doing good work when he was there.

Also, in terms of family, if you have anyone who has problems with stairs, well, better ask them if they still have the circular iron staircase to the second floor. That was the only way to get upstairs.

Brunch? No, but the Ol' Mangler has always been a great place to sit in front of the fire and mellow out with a few brandies. Nice atmosphere, but food has never been the point.
