Not served as sushi, but grilled or baked, anyone know of any places that serve this?

New Deal has had fresh conger eel recently (as in, I saw it there once in January). Might want to give them call.

Frozen is easy, too. Any Japanese or Asian grocery has it, cooked a la sushi bar...The new Japanese fish market in Allston must have it, too. I pick it up at Village Food, or whatever the Japanese grocery is called in Brookline Village...

I've seen live eels squirming in buckets of water at multiple Vietnamese markets along Dot avenue in South Boston. Sorry that I don't recall exact locations or market names.

I had it as an appetizer (broiled I think) at Erbaluce in early January. It was a special but they were excited to have it on the menu so I don't know how often they get it.

Maggi Eel at Peach Farm Seafood, dipped in cornstarch and fried, topped with Maggi sauce...
I'm also fond of their steamed eel with back bean sauce...

the eel with sticky rice at mulan is great but very similar to the japanese preparations. I have eaten live eel with garlic at Jumbo Seafood and liked the tiny eels at Dali that were expensive and tasty.

I should have specified that I am not looking for it prepared the typical Japanese style with the sweet soy glaze.
                  Greek/Italian?
                  IOther ideas?

A great many sushi places serve eel over a bowl of rice. So not sushi pieces - just a big bowl of eely goodness.

For example, Fugakyu's menu: UNAJU Broiled fresh water eel glazed with sweet soy sauce over rice.

Or do you mean a different preparation entirely?

chinese restaurants have a few preparations, but they're steamed or stir fried...
