Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in Washington, Oregon and Alaska (exc. Seattle and Portland)

Road trip from Astoria to Brookings and back to Portland (via the 5)

I'm hoping that besides Josephson's Smokehouse for smoked fish in Astoria (Love that place!) that someone can direct me to some yummy food on my road trip. We'll have a cooler as well (I plan to eat some smoked fish along the way). I'm looking for vegetarian and fish only options (no meat, no chicken or anything like that, love all fresh fish). Any must stop suggestions? Love cheese as well, but not so interested in going to Tillamook, unless you guys advise me otherwise. Thanks for any suggestions. Looking for fresh quality food and good wine (which we can get to go and drink in the hotel or something, wine doesn't necessarily have to be at the restaurant). Casual, upscale, it doesn't matter as long as it'll be memorable.

  1. Josephson's does do some wonderfful smoked salmon! I would check out Ship Inn for some excellent Halibut fish and chips. Bowpicker right across from the Maritime Museum also has some fantastic albacore tuna fish and chips. I would also check out Clemente's, Bridgewater Bistro and Silver Salmon Grille for excellent seafood. If you like Steamer Clams, Fulio's has all you can eat on Thurs. nights. We just dined there a couple of nights ago and it was wonderful! Have a nice trip! :)

Lots of good clam chowder in the Astoria/Seaside area where I am. In Astoria, Bridgewater Bistro does a wonderful Seafood Chowder. Ship Inn, Silver Salmon Grille and Rogue Public Ale House @ Pier 39 all do excellent clam chowder. In Gearhart, we just had the clam chowder at The Sandtrap yesterday, it was very, very good. Here in Seaside there is Norma's Ocean Diner and Sam's Seaside Cafe. In Cannon Beach, we had some great clam chowder at Mo's Chowder House. Enjoy! :)

        2. even though it's a shine to sausage, you need to stop in taylor's country store in Cave Junction.
