Steelhead diner

Headed to the steel head diner for my 30th bday wanted to get some thoughts on what to try. Thoughts? I have a res, willing to think about other places but I wanted to keep the cost down as my parents and inlaws are taking me out and did not want to break the bank plus I also wanted some oysters and they all done care for them as much as I do. What are your thoughts...any places in belltown, Ballard area that are worth a shot? Let me hear it.

  1. The crab cake at Steelhead is outstanding, in my opinion.

I'm not wild about Steelhead. Have eaten there four times and the only thing I would reorder was the chicken sandwich. As far as oysters, Elliott's gets good reviews. Etta's has oysters and generally good food. Check out their website and see if it works for you.

There are so many places in Seattle right now that will schuck and serve a plate of high quality oysters. Unless you want the most multivarious selection, you need not go to Elliot's, where the non-oyster items are questionable. I'm a Steelhead fan, but if you want something more current, really you could check out menus of other restaurants in the Steelhead price range, and make sure they include an oyster offering. Some may not have the same bountiful portions as the Diner for the price, if that makes someone feel like their dollars were well-directed.

I'm no Ballard expert but Walrus and Carpenter features oysters, and has many other options that won't trouble the bankroll. Assuming it's still in effect, you could slide into Mistral Kitchen and get $1 oysters b/w 5 and 6, with a cocktail, but it may get pricey if you linger for dinner.
