Ambala Dhaba - Aretsia Location - 1st Time - What to Order

First timer for Ambala Dhaba........
What are the must order items?

Or.......is there a better Indian restaurant in Little India?

Thanks!

    1. As far as better restos in Little India, I'll let others chime in (Woodlands---although focusing on a completely different region of the Motherland---is excellent.OK---I had to chime).

      I like AMBALA plenty though:

Luddhiana Chicken---Unique and tasty, Tandoori-esque, although the spicing is very different. Get it with the white meat for a buck or two more.

Aloo Methi---Potatoes with fenugreek leaves. Kinda sour, but homey in a weird way.

Baingan Bharta---I've had many a bland, pasty variation of this eggplant dish. This version is a revelation.

Other widely recc'd dishes I've not tried

Anything 'bakra'---goat meat. Supposedly a punjab specialty.

Kulfi---Indian ice cream, with noodles (?!). Some Hounds think a trip down to AMBALA without ordering this item is completely pointless.

      Enjoy, and please report back!

        1. re: rabo encendido

I've had the goat curry (iirc) there. It was tasty, but a bit greasy. Just FYI.

            1. re: LBQT

I'd like to think of it as more "oily" than "greasy."

                1. re: Joe B.

The bowl I had was definitely greasy from the fat on the meat. Maybe I just lucked out and got the fattiest pieces of meat. As I said, it was tasty, but greasier than goat I've tasted in tacos.

              • Their goat dishes there are great. I enjoy getting their Bakra lunch special. Afterwards, I usually go to the an indian sweets bakery in the same mini-mall complex to get some sweet dessert.
