Restaurant in San Diego with a great view? Please Help!

Hello all! I was hoping to get some help on deciding where to eat this weekend to celebrate Valentine's Day. I am from the Los Angeles area so don't really know any good places to eat in San Diego. I have to handle a few business things in the morning and plan on celebrating with my girlfriend after.

An ideal restuarant would be a restaurant right near the beach that has a good steak meal with a good romantic setting. We both love steak dinners but I am open to other cuisines. I would like for it to be by or on the beach because we would like to take a stroll on it either before or after dinner. I would also like a place not too casual. All suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!
(Price Range $100-$150)

The food is meh, but Il Fornaio in Coronado has the best view of the San Diego skyline. I'd follow that up with Candelas, which is right around the corner.

I would recommend you try The Green Flash restaurant. It is a laid back restaurant so it may not be what you are thinking of for Valentines Day (I myself prefer laid back). So if you don;t go then, go on another day when in San Diego. The view is the best in SD. And the area around the restaurant is fun too. http://www.greenflashrestaurant.com/3...

Dinner at 1540 only if the Chef is actually working which might happen 2 nights out of the month...My last two visits at this restaurant were less than stellar...

Agree with all the reccomendations. I might add Poseiden......but only for drinks. Argueably the best beach view for it is literally on the beach. Food is just so so. Mister A's downtown is great for city views but not on the beach.

You could walk the cove in La Jolla and go to Manhattan's and get the fillet Oscar, it's a good steak if you like tenderloin, and probably the most romantic of all the choices. I would also recommend the Cannelloni as a starter.

Flavor in Del Mar. Had another good meal there on Friday.

Had a really awful lunch at Flavor today. Everything was extremely over seasoned as if the kitchen's taste buds were on steroids. Salmon sandwich seemed promising but after the third bite the salty intensity made my friend put it down for good. One of the salads had some salty components in it (blue cheese, some bacon lardons), but even when eating only the dressed lettuce alone it was impossible to eat (and I am a big fan of salt). Before our lunch items were brought to the table a server brought a sliced baguette and butter with 4 or 5 different flavored sea salts to sprinkle on top. None of the salts tasted like the described flavors (jerk, curry, etc.) and the butter that was served was...you guessed it SALTED. Can't blame it on unsupervised kitchen staff as Chef was on duty when we were there. Won't be returning.

After googling some places I found 7 potential restaurants. Any feedback on any of these restaurants would be greatly appreciated. I.E. How is the view? Pricing? Steak Dinners? Customer Service? Atmosphere? Thanks again for all your help.

While they're all either on the beach or have a great view, I really think you'd be disappointed at The Beach House, The Chart House or Poseidon.

JRDN, The Marine Room and Azul are all pretty solid choices. You should probably add Island Prime to your list. It's on the bay and has one of the best views in town. You can safely stroll after dinner. Food is generally good, but won't knock your socks off.

Island Prime really does sound like what vmr016 is looking for. I'd normally pick George's or The Marine Room over it but they aren't strictly steak places.

What time are you planning to dine? The view is shot at most of these places after dark and if that matters, Island Prime may be your best choice. I've only been there for lunch and happy hour so can't comment on the steak, but the view is great anytime of day. At night you have the lights of the downtown skyline across the bay.

The Beach House in Cardiff has barely passable food. The beachfront view barely makes up for the food. George's in La Jolla has excellent food and a nice view of the water.

I would go with George's California Modern. Their skirt steak is very tasty and the Cote du Beuf is fantastic. Also their wine list is moderately priced, I found some gems at decent prices. If you make a reservation in advance you should be able to secure a window table, and the views are fantastic.

Azul La Jolla would fit your criteria. Upscale steakhouse overlooking La Jolla Cove, I would recommend the walk prior because of the fairly early sunset. You might also enjoy The Marine Room which is very romantic and right on the beach at La Jolla Shores. Not a steak house but it has chow worthy food and is a local favorite for special occasion dining.

Thank you for your response! Yes, I came across both these places and can definietly see them as a possibility. Have you personally eaten at both? Which do you think would be the better fit for me?

Is Azul La Jolla close to the beach? Within walking distance?

                          Thanks again for your cooperation.
