In the late 70's or early 80's we vacationed in Maine on Mt. Desert Island, Acadia National Park, and stayed in Southwest Harbor on the island. I found a jar of Chowder Powder at one of the local food shops. It was made by a company in the area and I have never been able to find it since. It was this amazing seasoning that I have not been able to duplicate for my chowders. There was no list of ingredients on the jar. I guess in those days they didn't need to do that. Is there anyone out there who has heard of it?
Thanks, Don, for replying. I don't think that it was a clam-broth based flavoring. This was an herbal concoction in a small jar. I always include thyme in my clam chowders because I'm pretty sure it had it, but there were other things in there too. I don't have any more obviously. It's just in my taste memory. I should have done some asking in early those years, but you know how that goes.
