Suggestions on John Sedlar's Modern Southwest Cuisine - moved from California board

I'm preparing a Valentine's Day dinner for 8 and am considering using John Sedlar's cookbook. Does anyone have experience with this cookbook and/or suggestions on recipes you tried, loved, disliked, etc. Any feedback would be welcome.
