Chinese in Torrance?
Any suggestions? I've heard Sue's Kitchen is good, as well as Peter's Place. I think I'm sensing a pattern!

OK, I went to Sue's Kitchen. Small place. But it's got a cold appetizer cart just like in the szechuan places in SGV, with some of the same stuff, but moderately worse. Not a whole lot of meat dishes. And the potstickers were acceptable. Pretty good for an un-Americanized lunch. Nothing to drive out more than 10 minutes for tho.

I found Sue's to be a bit greasy when I went there... I like Seafood Town on Hawthorne Blvd in Torrance next to a Just Massage and the Andes' Florist.
They only get a score of a B by the health department but they always seem busy with a mix of Asian and non-Asian clientele. The portions are quite large for the price (I always have leftovers to bring home). I like their noodle dishes, whole fish dishes... thought their moo shu was just so so.

I love Seafood Town for a cheap-Chinese type of meal if I'm in the area. The portions are ridiculously large for the price. I think $40 would buy me enough food for a week if I had some rice to go with it. That's not an exaggeration. I always get chow mein with crispy noodles, green beans, eggplant, and salt and pepper pork chops. Do not go by yourself unless you want to eat two pounds of eggplant by yourself. Even if you go as a party of two and get two dishes, you could be overwhelmed by the dinner portions.
I do not claim that it's a fabulous restaurant but it's in my top 10 hole-in-the-wall in LA.

I just went to Peter's Place for lunch. The two dishes i had -- dan dan noodles and kung pao beef -- were exceedingly mediocre. But, I have hope for the place. First of all, i didn't order the dishes people have been shouting out about. (the XLB and a couple other things). Second of all, the place was packed with chinese people. i was the only whitey there. there must be something good about the place!

I've been to Sue's Kitchen and I can attest that the niou rou mian is a solid rendition. Beef could use a little more braising time to make it more tender but the texture is decent overall. The pickled greens that accompany the bowl of noodles is good. They also have a decent selection of cold dishes ie marinated seaweed, pig ears, roasted peanuts etc. The peanuts were my favorite. Salted well, not too oily and a great numbing sensation from the Sichuan peppercorns.

The best choices are on PCH in Lomita--P V Palace and Harbor Palace. Also, Shanghai Palace in the motel on PCH in Torrance.

I work in Torrance. There's several meh Chinese restaurants right by the office that I walk to mainly for the convenience of not having to re-park in the parking disaster zone where I work.
Food-wise, I like Tasty Kitchen in Gardena. It's a short drive from work, but I tend to go up that way for halfway good Chinese.
Here is one to avoid: Beijing Islamic Chinese place on Normandie & PCH. It used to be owned by the Ma's Islamic Chinese family, but changed hands last year. Terrible food, indifferent owners. You can skip this one unless you eat halal and you're constrained on better choices.
Haven't tried Sue's or Peters, sorry.
