Hard Rock- Any place worth eating here?

I know there are threads about where to eat around the HRH, but are there any places IN the HRH worth eating in?

    1. I'm underwhelmed by the choices at HRH, but have not tried Johnny Smalls. In general, I think you can do better elsewhere. We recently had a pretty bad experience at Nobu, and won't be going back (we'd been there several times before and had had substantially better meals.).

In my opinion one bad meal does not necessarily mean that the restaurant should be totally written off. Granted, given the prices that Nobu charges, an off night is especially disappointing but you said you'd been there several times before and those experiences must have been good enough for you to keep returning so personally I don't think it's fair to write them off because of one bad experience out of four or five. If you enjoyed your other experiences enough to go back, then I would go back again and if the meal is not up to your standards again then feel free to write them off.

I'm going to beg to disagree. First off, the experience was REALLY bad. We didn't receive half the dishes we ordered, what we got in two instances was mistaken, the drink orders were messed up (and no one ever asked if we would like an additional beverage) and the attitude of the staff was that we were lucky to be there (and the restaurant was not full). They've also redesigned the restaurant in such a way that there are odd u-shaped booths that force you to face people that you are not with, and are quite awkward. Finally, the quality of the fish was nothing special. When there are numerous competitors (Bar Masa, Okada, Blue Ribbon, Yellowtail) on the strip, and Sen of Japan off the strip, I don't think it makes sense to go back, especially at that price point. It was exceedingly impersonal and sent out the vibe that "we are just here to take your money and hustle you back out". Even though that is the mantra at many a LAS establishment, most manage to conceal it better.

I can't see any reason to give them another chance either.

Well, yeah that doesn't sound very good and I don't blame you for wanting to look elsewhere. I guess my point is, and I guess I don't know exactly how fond of Nobu you were in the past, if I REALLY like a restaurant and had numerous great experiences in the past I can forgive them for one off night. Now, if they have another off night then more than likely I won't go back. If Nobu wasn't anything that special to you and you just happened to go there and kinda liked it then I could definitely see never going back, but if you truly enjoyed your experiences in the past I guess I just think they've earned another chance, but that's just my opnion.

Like I said, if Nobu was a place that you really liked and had that experience you could have spoken to the manager and let him/her know how disappointed you were. How the manager reacts would be another indication of where the restaurant is currently at.

        2. I had a great dinner at Nobu the last time I was there.

          1. If you're looking for fine dining you can do better elsewhere. That being said, the coffee shop, Mr. Lucky's is a gem with an off the menu steak and shrimp special for $7.77.

            1. I had enjoyed the pink taco in the past. It has been a few years since my last visit.

I actually ate there last night. It was very reasonably priced and quite good!

Pink Taco is good, love the appetizer platter as an entree, and they have a restaurant.com offer if you sign up for the slot club.

i remember AJ's Steakhouse. The first time I ate there it was seriously killer and it was downhill every time after that. Boy that first time... best bisque ever, over the top service, and a Prime Strip where every bite made me pause in amazement and think about what I was eating and how shockingly good it was. By the fourth time there they told me it was changing to a new steakhouse concept and it felt like dining in a dead restaurant overall. Anyhow has anyone been to the new steakhouse that is in the former Aj's spot? I forgot the name.

                          2 Months later, but...

                          1st visit

Ambiance: Buzzing. Server, Ted, was attentive and excellent.

Started with an Iceberg/Blue salad. Nicely flavored but a little past crisp on the lettuce. It had seriously old and or overcooked bacon.

Split the Salt and Pepper Shrimp. Not a great example of the genre. I could make it at home easily.

Mains: She had the Filet, I the Ribeye. We asked for some Dijon mustard and some of the Chimichurri that goes with the Flank steak. Both cuts of meat were excellent. Temperature perfect.

For sides we ordered the Mac N Cheese and the Spinach. The Spinach was lacklustre and pedestrian. The Mac had the same bacon as the salad. Consistency was wallpaper glue-ish. Flavor was nice though.

We had for dessert the Brulee Trio; Vanilla, Blueberry, and Chocolate. Nice, however the Blueberry had not properly set.

The accompanying Prisoner by Orin Swift was excellent.

Is it a great steakhouse? Meh. Is it fine dining? Is any steakhouse?. I would however eat here again, the deciding factor being the ½ off on food on Monday nights when you are a member of the Hardrock’s Rockstar club.

                2. I can't agree more with LVFlyer - and interesting - I too was brought a drink (not cheap) that I didn't ask for. I would skip Nobu in favour of Okada any day.
