SW Corner of San Gabriel & Valley, by "Superstore." Banh mi are $1.50. Bread is middling, not up to Lee's or Mr. B, but still recognizably a baguette, not the desiccated corpse of a french roll offered at Bad Ba Le across the street. (Good Ba Le at Atlantic & Valley, by Del Taco) Pork was tender, but skimpy on the meat, not much flavor. Would return if this were in Chinatown, but Valley Blvd is no place for meek banh mi.

Have you try Banh mi che cali on Valley in Rosemead? I think they opened not long ago. It's in the 888 Seafood restaurant plaza. The banh mi is only $1.50 each. I pass by it all the time but haven't try it yet. My favorite is still Mr. Baguette which is only a few blocks away.

Must say that the Rosemead BM&CC in't as good those in Westminster/GG. Both times I've hit the Rosemead location, the bread was not up to par and the fillings were skimpy. Also, they informed me that I needed to request cilantro if I wanted it, otherwise they may or may not include it, depending on who's making the sandwich. Lastly, the "buy 2 get one free" deal doesn't apply to the baguettes versions (in Rosemead).

I have to agree. Saigon Sandwich was my first banh mi; I tried it a few times and liked it quite a bit (especially the sausage banh mi)...until I ate my way through the Valley Blvd. Murderer's Row of banh mi: Baguette Express, Mr. Baguette, Banh Mi My Tho, Banh Mi Che Cali, Good Ba Le, Baguette du Jour, etc.

Another few coins and a few more blocks gets you a far better banh mi.

Every now and then, you just have to tip your hat to free-market capitalism...a $2 sandwich that good has to regarded as one of the triumphs of our age.

Hey, I just tried Saigon past Sat, it was fair but for $1.50 you can't beat it. Boy was it crowded in there. I'm wondering how the Paris Bakery that's about to pen across the street will be. I assume they will also sell BM.

By the way, there's a small hole in the wall BM in the Popeye's plaza? Has anyone been there?

You noted the following BM shops, where are they on valley?
"Banh Mi My Tho, Banh Mi Che Cali, Good Ba Le, Baguette du Jour, etc. "

My favorite place is the Banh Mi Bah Le next to Popeyes since the meat portions are filling (almost too much for me) and the prices are 1.75 a sandwich (for the house special). I have been going there ever since I was a child and my family gets take out there as well. They (for the past few months) have been toasting their bread and you can ask for the pickled vegetables to be separate so the sandwich won't be soggy. And they have fruit smoothies for $2 (my favorite is avocado).

I have been to Mr.Baguette and I have never liked it. For one thing, the prices are higher (S2.25) but you need to eat two sandwiches to get full. They skimp on the meat, pickled vegetables (well I like a lot), no cilantro, cucumber and chili.

My parents get their bread from Saigon Bakery (across from Popeyes) and I had one sandwich there before. Good as well.

Yclops and fellow banh mi loving hounds-- I've also noticed the huge number of banh mi places on Valley near Rosemead. Please review the banh mi if you've eaten your way through all the various places. Many thanks.

I haven't eaten my way through them, but I really like Saigon on Garfield just south of the 10 (yes, south), on the west side of the road across from the take-out dim sum place (which is also reasonably good).

The banh mi have more "stuff" in them than at, say, Cali.
