Great Irish classics...where?
Just had a pretty dreadful meal at Muldoon's in Newport Beach. Corned beef was thinly sliced, certainly by machine, was dry and chewy...and was served with mashed potatoes topped by shredded cabbage...all very poor quality and not at all traditional. When I order corned beef and cabbage (and I've had it many times at pretty ordinary Irish bars in New York City), I expect nice slices of moist and tender corned beef, draped over a wedge of boiled/steamed cabbage with some boiled potatoes, and perhaps a few carrots on the side. Give me this and a nice glass of Guiness, and I'm a happy camper.
Is there anywhere in southern CA (preferably in OC) where Irish classics such as corned beef and cabbage, Irish Stew, shepherd's pie, lamb shanks braised in Guiness, etc. are properly done? My mouth is watering remembering the days when I was a graduate student in Manhattan, and delicious meals like this were readily available in local Irish bars/pubs and were really cheap!
