Anniversary Dinner in or near Camp Hill, New cumberland, Mechanicsburg?
Hi,
Parents celebrating their anniversary, 70 yrs plus age, dont' like to drive too far.
I live in FL, want to buy them a GC to somewhere "fancy" but closeby.
They could drive to Camp Hill, Lemoyne, New Cumberland, Mechanicsburg, etc.
Nothing over the river into the city.
Any ideas on where to go? They are old school and not really into trying new things.
I would say Tavern on the Hill very old school upscale. I've been 3 times, once for my graduation from college dinner, once before that to try it out and make sure it would be acceptable for the occassion and once with my BF for a special ocassion (but I don't remember what) I had the veal chop special lst time and it was delicious. Hard to pick somewhere that fits the bill on the West Shore. I believe this is considered Enola.

+1 for Tavern on the Hill. If they like Italian food, Visaggio's, although I think it is overpriced.
As someone who didn't grow up in central PA, but has lived here for many years, I remain quite amazed that so many people who live on the West Shore won't cross over the river to the East Shore and vice versa. If the OP's parents were willing to eat in Harrisburg, which they seem not to be, I would also recommend Bricco.

I adore Bricco and go approximately once a month. For the most part the food is amazing as well as the service. However, there are a few servers and a few dishes that just haven't cut the mustard. I would say 90% positive, 10% negative.

We had nice meals at Confit. There is another restaurant up the street that one of my friends likes, opposite side from Confit and the name is the address like 2247 Market or something.
My mom moved to the West Shore (from another part of the state) a couple of years ago and I agree, it is absolutely amazing how those people DO NOT WANT TO CROSS THAT RIVER. She and her husband would never dream of going over to the East Shore for a meal.

You're thinking of 2201 in the Boro. Unfortunately, it closed in December 2010.

Another thought I had was Rock Bass Grill in Wormleysburg, right at the edge of Lemoyne, set right on the river with sweeping views. They should definitely make a reservation and request one of the roomy booths with a view. Lots of seafood choices, steaks, lobster macaroni, etc. Famous sides are the sweet potato casserole and sea-food-topped bake potato. You get a cute little basket with corn fritters and cinnamon butter. Plenty of wine choices and draft beer. Will post pics as soon as my computer is back up.

I also thought of the Rock Bass and ditto the booth by the window recommendation, especially if they get there prior to the sun going down. We like the booths in the bar area. (the bar area is always quiet)
We eat at the Rock Bass about once a month. The menu and the wine list is extensive, something for everyone. We both enjoy oysters and have never been disappointed with their offerings.
One thing that might be worth mentioning is that it has always been crazy busy during our Saturday night visits and the staff seems frazzled. Therefore, we generally go for weekend lunches or early (6pm) dinners.
