Is Szechuan Gourmet in Flushing really that great?

Recently I read that this place made number 4 on a list of the best Asian restaurants--is it really that great? I'm thinking of trying it next week, although I usually prefer Cantonese cuisine.

  1. That list is bogus. I prefer Spicy & Tasty.

Not sure which list you are referring to as bogus. Can we please have link?

In my personal opinion, SG in Flushing is decent, certain dishes (most notably the whole fish) are a few notches better than in their Manhattan branch. Quite good overall, but the competition is much tougher in Flushing and the plank is set higher, but that is my taste.

If this is the list that was all over the media last month, where some place in suburban Philly is the best Chinese place in America...that's the list I call bogus. I don't have the link as I saw an article about in print media...You're right, the competition in Flushing is serious...

that list is completely ridiculous, i dont know how they heck they came up with their ratings

Not sure which ratings you are referring to? SG is my personal judgment, and I might be very wrong of course, but that's how I feel. I don't--and won't--take money to say what I like, sorry.

well im not saying SG is bad btw (i like SG), im just saying the list itself is ridiculous

      2. If you prefer Cantonese food, I would wholeheartedly recommend Canton Gourmet on Prince St (not a seafood or a dim sum establishment, but do try their casseroles) Warning: the wait line can be long on weekends

        2. The list in question:

These are all good places, but I don't think these are the best Chinese restaurants in the country, or even that it is possible to compile a list of the best Chinese restaurants in the country.
