Help! I need to take out a family friend from China out for dinner tmw night for NYE. He's here for business only for a short period of time and we wanted to take him somwhere really fun, and really memorable for Chinese New Years GTA style. Anywhere in the GTA is fine, and any budget is fine. There will be 4 of us in total. Thanks in advance!

I second Lai Wah Heen. Lai Toh Heen Winterlicious could also be fun. Good mix of Toronto upscale/semi fusion Chinese food and city wide food event. As your friend is from China, I think the focus should be more on decor and service and less on classic chinese new year dishes.

I'll take an antagonist view on LWH and LTH. It depends on where in China they're from but, IMHO, this restaurant is not really fusion but rather Chinese food served Western style at Western prices, and someone fresh off the plane from China may not "get it" and wonder why you're paying so much for similar food they get at home. I guess it's like taking a Florentian to a Toronto Italian restaurant. Not the same and not up to par.

It might be "funner" to not do Chinese food and try Western food that they've not tried before. My 2 cents anyway.

Go for a live Alaskan King Crab 4 ways at O'Mei. Add a steamed live French Turbot with ginger, scallions and premium top soy and a plate of wok-fried Chinese brocolli with Chines wine, minced garloc and diced dried tile fish and the four of you will be rubbing your belly and talking about the meal for a long, long time!!
On second thoughts! Might be too much food. Skip the fish!
