My husband and I will be in Houston Friday night and the following Saturday. Neither of us have been before. Atmosphere and presentation aren't that important to us. An experience with good food tops our list. The hotel made reservations for us at ?Sambuca and some family owned Italian place? Please advise!

Sambuca is not the place for food.... It is the place for smooooooooth jazz if you can stomach it. It may be convenient to your hotel but its a little too slick for my taste.. Sit at the bar at Dolce Vita for terrific food and people watching (honestly don't be seated at a table), and ask Jorge to take care of you. The Italian pizza's are authentic and terrific.. It's located in an old house,, wood floors, terrific lively atmosphere. Or, head next door to Indika for the best Indian food found anywhere. Head up Westheimer 1/2 mile and have a custom cocktail poured at Anvil.. If you want Texas progressive and/or eclectic music. head to McGonigal's Mucky Duck or get down and dirty at The Big Easy for down home, blue collar, no collar, Texas Blues. It'll be snowing on Friday so be prepared (crazy huh?). Enjoy your visit!

Agree with many of these recs, especially Indika. Anvil gets really crowded and Mucky Duck is stretching the 15 min cab ride.

I'd add Feast to the list. It's nose to tail stuff and is totally awesome, if that doesn't scare you.

An experience is what I asked for - Feast! Whoa! Being a good German girl, I can do blood sausage, head cheese, and pig's feet with the best of them.....I'm afraid my husband will never touch meat again if we go to Feast. What a fabulous concept! Indian is not his fav either, but it's MY birthday for God's sake.....so, I'll give him the choice.....Indika or Feast! Thanks much!

Snow? NO WAY! I am leaving the midsection because of the snow! Just so we can fly out on Saturday! I love the Doce Vita suggestion - character!
