Grasshopper Also, Carlstadt

menton1 Feb 2, 2011 07:09 AM

This Irish Pub with the strange name is getting the once over from Gordon Ramsay tonight. (Hope it fares better than Bazzini).

Anybody been to this place? Is it in need of Gordon's help?

I wasn't there "before", I actually just had lunch there begining of January. Can't imagine what it was before, because it was pretty poor "after". They guy I ate with said they had revamped the menu, but when we were there he said it looked like it changed again. If it is supposed to be an Irish Pub it lacks that identity in the food, the menu is pretty lacking. Let's just say for lunch I wound up with a tuna salad sandwich.

Their menu says they have "Mozrella Sticks."

It is just a bar with food. It was never known for anything special just a place for some quick bites and beer. It gets a crowd because of how close it is to the meadowlands and it does get a decent bar crowd on a friday or saturday. I have never known anyone that went there for a good meal. The line is out the door on Saint Patty's day and they always have an Irish Band playing.

The Bangers & Mash, and the Shepherd's Pie, are some good Irish fare. Don't know if they are any good here, though...

We used to love to go to this restaurant. Due to the supposedly makeover by Gordon Ramsey, the food lacks taste, the owner that was there that night lacked taste and the portions were very small. Never again. Too bad Annette, we will miss you.

The owner not only lacks taste, he is also unprofessional

Is this the same owner as pre-Ramsay?

not sure, but I would be surprised if it was...
it was never like that before Ramsay...

The implication seems to be that Ramsay is somehow responsible for the owner's taste and professionalism.

The name plays on the fact they have multiple locations. The Grasshopper, Grasshopper Too, Grasshopper off the Green in Morristown etc.

Saw it and zapped through it on the DVR -- the show has the same format each time, and lots of overheated drama. Looks like Ramsey's people cleaned up and lightened the room's appearance, but it's impossible to know about food quality. They made the owner seem weak and ineffectual and the Latino cooks a bunch of screw-ups who were straightened out by Ramsey's visiting chef. Interesting to know about the other locations. I used to drive past "Grasshopper Too" on the way to Lincoln Park and wondered about the name.

I've been to Grasshopper Too in Wayne multiple times......a very good place for a burger and fries....a tasty brunch as well. Friendly service, too. Fair-priced for families, too. But it hasn't been as crowded as the old days since the problems with the economy. I hope that they can continue to do well 'cause the Mountain View section of Wayne needs a good restaurant.
