Wanted: Cute cafe for late Saturday afternoon lunch in Springfield

My girlfriends and I are doing bridesmaid dress fittings Saturday morning and will need a repast about 2 PM in the Springfield area. We are adventurous eaters but do not like chains or Chinese food and would prefer somewhere that we could enjoy a glass of wine as well.

Any thoughts fellow hounds?

  1. I asked my fiance if there was anywhere good in Springfield and he said no as well...I guess the silence from this board means we will end up driving back to the District ravenous.

I thought about this last night and came up with nothing. Springfield is best for things like Kabobs, chinese, chili (Hard Times Cafe) -- which don't match with wanting a glass of wine.

There is Mikes American Grill, which is part of a small local chain -- so I don't know if that disqualifies it for you. It's good for steaks, chops, crab cakes, etc -- not adventurous or "foodie" food but always good. Their wine-by-the-glass selection is not good for wine connoisseurs but it's acceptable for casual dining (Kendall Jackson and similar -- I once had a good GSM). It's big and can be loud, not a cute cafe.

Another thought -- I can't recommend it because I've never been there but someone on this board recently recommended Savios, which is not in Springfield but it's not too far -- depending on where in Springfield you are.

Thanks for the help - Mikes American Grill is the only thing my fiance came up with as well...
