Quiet place for a drink between Bev. Hills and Santa Monica

Looking for a nice, semi-quiet (not dead!) place to meet for a drink between Beverly Hills and Santa Monica. Somewhere that would be good for a first meet-up.

Thanks all. Our plans changed and we ended up meeting for coffee. But there's another date this week, and I'll be checking out Bar Toscana after all the recommendations. Will let you know my impression.

Le Pain Quotidien in BH. It was quiet, given the time of day we went. We were pretty much the only one's there, except maybe one or two other tables.

My guess is not too busy. Very pleasant ambiance, great drinks and good food (appetizers).

Bar Toscana. Katsu Ya Brentwood. Or even Bar Food on wildfire. Depending on time of night Angels is good but dead early evening.

Bar Noir is one of my favorites. i was hesitant to suggest it because it could be a little too intimate for a first date.

A fair point. Unless they are already somewhat comfortable with each other from e-mail or phone calls it might well be too intimate a setting. Of course, there are also some of the bars/lounges at the larger hotels such as the ones at the Casa Del Mar and the Four Seasons, which have some nice, semi-quiet spaces--I noted that there is also a bar at Scarpetta but did not look in (the Conservatory across the hall seems too stiff for a first date--better for a tea).

actually the bar at Scarpetta is a perfect choice *if* the music isn't too loud. my first time there it was, but on subsequent visits i didn't notice it as much.

can't believe i didn't think of that - it's my favorite restaurant in town right now!

BTW, for some reason there's a link to the Four Seasons with your post even though you didn't suggest Culina...

I did suggest the bar areas at both Casa Del Mar and the Four Seasons, hence the link. I did not specify the bar at Culina, which I liked, though, since I think the lounge area outside the restaurant's bar is quieter.

Agree that SFA is a ghost town.
Bar Toscana, still my first choice. Great location, lovely environment, great bartenders making great drinks, not insanely loud. Nice small bar menu. If you require more food, walk over to Toscana. Great bar attached to good , earthy restaurant.

Bar Toscana is just across the entrance from the restaurant. The bar is beautiful and is, indeed a full bar. Seating is comfortable, drinks are delicious and service is friendly. This is a perfect for what the OP appears to be seeking.
