Brooklyn Star Reopening?

  • 19
  • Share

Has anyone heard anything more about Brooklyn Star's reopening? Eater has been pretty quiet, other than the Craigslist ad last week. According to this article it will reopen tomorrow 2/2/2011 and states the restaurant will feature the same menu as before. Looking forward to visiting the restaurant in the new space!

  1. Not open yet. I live on the block it's on and walk by it every day on the way to the subway. The sign is hung but the windows are still scrubbed out and workers going in and out all the time. I'll try to remember to post here when it opens.

Thanks uberdeb, just saw another Eater article saying that they hope to re-open the 16th.

So apparently the restaurant is set to re-open March 9th. Menu looks pretty much the same with a few nice additions.

Yeah I meant to ping you about this -- it's in its soft-open phase with people in there every night while they're finessing the cooking and menu. I tried to talk my way in a couple times, no dice. The windows are still soaped over. Terrific smells emanating from the kitchen. My husband and I are going to eat there the night it opens even if we have to camp out with our 9-month-old in tow!

Haha, thanks for the info uberdeb! I had a great dinner there pre-fire and have been wanting to check it out for some time now. Glad to see things are coming together nicely. Really excited to try some of the new additions on the menu, btw, went to Best Pizza (former location) the other day and had a killer meatball sub, glad to see the old oven is still being put to good use.

We still haven't tried Best Pizza yet...thanks for the reminder!

Looks like it really *will* reopen this week -- the windows are no longer soaped over and there were staff inside all weekend, getting ready. Finally!

I know it just opened, but have you been yet? I probably won't be able to get out there until sometime this weekend, but was wondering if it was already a mob scene. Any info is appreciated...really looking forward to trying some new items and old favorites.

It opened last night ... heard it was indeed a mob scene. I'm going to wait about a week and check it out on a weeknight ...

                    1. re: kariface

it was a TOTAL mob scene. i live half a block away on conselyea st. and i swear there were stragglers in front of my building. it's a big place but the buzz has been going for so long that that everyone's trying to get in right now. we're going to wait till a weeknight, as well.

I was afraid of hearing that. Thanks for the info, might have to find a plan B this weekend and try hitting it up sometime during the week as well.

I'd check out the Post Office, over on Havemeyer. One of the chefs from Brooklyn Star is turning out oysters and great sandwiches - at awesome prices. HUGE whiskey list, too!

      2. Went last night. Still really good, but really LOUD in the main dining room. Great bar up front.

I also went last night! I couldn't wait any longer!

I was impressed by the bar up front, and my date and I were quoted 20 minutes for a table - which was spot on.

We were sat at a really large booth, and the service was stellar.

Food wise? Amazing. They're right back, if not better, where there were before the fire. Brussels Sprouts, Mac and Cheese, Cornbread, Chicken Fried Steak and Catfish - oh my!

I'm still completely in love. It's still my favorite NYC restaurant. Go.

Yup, it's loud! But our food was good and the bourbon list is really well-priced, so I'm willing to overlook some temporary tinnitus. We split the romaine "wedge" with bacon-buttermilk dressing, which is really more of a massive haystack of leaves. It might be my favorite iteration of this salad that I've had thus far, and if you like that sort of thing I'd consider it a must-order. We also shared the sweetbread tacos, since I'm incapable of passing up anything involving thymus. I liked the mix of flavors and textures from the pickled veg and the nuggets of fried hominy, and the sweetbreads themselves were tasty, but the tortilla was TOTALLY superfluous (and bland and dry). The taco aspect is a gimmick that the dish really doesn't need. Mains were the meatloaf sandwich (solid) and the blackened trout, which was definitely the favorite. I'm not sure about the sizes of other menu items, but our portions were large and we ended up taking food home. Very much looking forward to a return visit.

Do you have any idea how much longer they'll be offering it? Really want to try, but circumstances have been working against me.

                1. re: gort

I don't, but, do whatever you can to get there! It's incredible.
