Vinny's at Night: half price dinner entrees, limited time
I live in the same Somerville neighborhood and noticed a sign on the door: half price dinner entrees Mon and Tues from 4:30 to 10 and on Sun. 2 to 8. I think this runs through President's Day. I tired it last night and they are definitely not skimping on portions: the pork chop is has huge as ever. Like everybody else, they are hurt by the snow. They have a full bar now...if you haven't been in a while.

Dear Lord, no, please not the 1/2 price death knell ... they must be really hurting. It's a pity, because that's some great chow, both from the counter and the kitchen. I was in there for a sit-down lunch a few months back and had some homemade fusilli with a simple sauce. Mama mia, that was nice. Their sammys are righteous too.
Anybody know if Lil' Vinny's is doing OK?

re: Madrid
I know that Rodizio on the other side of Broadway was offering a really inexpensive all-you-can eat grilled meat with coupon ($7.99) eat-in only so I think a lot of the businesses around there are affected. If I can confirm they are still doing it and/or locate an online source for the coupon, I'll post it in the February deals section, but for those in the neighborhood it might be worth picking up a copy of the Brazilian Times or Metropolitan News (or maybe ta na mao classificados) in a Brazilian store to see if you can find the coupon (it will be in Portuguese not english, but "a vontage" essentially means as much as you want). Also keep in mind that there are several ethnic restaurants which deliver: Oasis, Rodizio & maybe Mix for Brazilian -- ask what options you have there should be a plate of the day or marmitex for around $10 delivered, Montecristo for Salvadoran, Zoe's and Wang's (Chili Garden & Wonder Taste for Medford).

We split an interesting tangent about Cantonese Restaurants off to its own thread so more people would see it: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/764023

re: treb
yes, after all the publicity, the prices went up. But that was at least a couple of years ago. I go every once in a while and see no change in the food quality over the nine years I've been going. Never saw it as great dining, but a charming neighborhood hole-in-the-wall if you like that kind of Sicilian-American. The pork chop is good! The mesclun salad always nice. The Sunday and Monday dinner openings are fairly recent.
