New or unique mid-range places I would like to try - please add to my list if you see fit

* Citizen Public House - seems like it will become an old standby soon
*Tasty Burger - want the fried patty
*Gallows - *foie gras poutine
*Reno's Place - *garlicky Italian
*Speed's Hot Dog Wagon - *never ever been, I know it isn't new
*Lolita Cocina - * I love lobster enchiladas

Any other new places that are terrific and mid-price?

  1. Tasty Burger... don't go. I gave them second chance after second chance and still their burgers are bland, pasty, and just plain not good.

If you give a place a second chance, wouldn't the chance after that be the third chance? :)

        For $4-$5.50, I think it's still worth a try.

I disagree on Tasty Burger - I just had takeout from them last weekend and the burgers were great. We had the gorgonzola burger, the cheddar jalapeno, and their special (fried pickles, bacon, and bbq sauce). All were really tasty. Especially for the price...

I thought Tasty Burger was gross (it seemed to get worse each time I went), but others seem to have had good experiences and it's pretty cheap, so not a huge risk, I guess.

I agree I have been to Tasty Burger twice, and was disappointed both times. I ordered the burger with A1 and mushrooms the first time I was there. It was smothered in A1, and I mean SMOTHERED. Inedible. The second time I ordered a turkey burger, and it was better than my first burger but waaaaay too much fennel seed. it was almost crunchy. U burger is 10 times better.

          2. Garlic n Lemons in Allston: try the spicy chicken schawarma

            1. I'd skip the fois gras poutine in favor of the regular. We had the fois version and honestly, it didn't really add much, certainly not worth the additional $8. But the poutine itself was fantastic. As well as the buffalo chicken livers.

                Agree. Get the regular poutine.

easily my favorite brand new place is Cognac Bistro. The Abbey somes a close second.

Those chicken livers are F'n awesome.

                3. It's Rino's Place. While you're over there, try Ricon Limone for some excellent Peruvian street food.

FYI Rino's has call ahead seating. Well worth the phone call. They will call you with a 15 minute "heads up".

                  2. Istanbu'lu. Not very new anymore, and I'm not sure it's "unique" as I don't eat out much, but I was recommended this place by someone here and it was excellent.
