we will be spending some time at apt on 76th near first ave and would appreciate restaurant suggestions both everyday and special meals. We like almost all types of foods and would like to try different things. while we are there. Thanks a lot!

  1. In the special meals category, I highly recommend Cafe Boulud. It's much further west, on 76th, just off Madison, but totally worth it. Superb cuisine, an excellent wine list, polished service, and lovely ambiance.

For delicious lobster rolls at quite reasonable prices: Luke's Lobster, on 81st, b/t 2nd & 3rd.

thanks for those suggestions. We can certainly get over to Madison and would do for a special meal. Any other thoughts or things you would definitely avoid nearby!

It's not my neighborhood, but I do eat there occasionally. Two other places which I can recommend:

          Uskudar, on 2nd Av., b/t 73rd & 74th, for very tasty Turkish food;

          and

Spigolo, on the corner of 2nd Av. & 81st, for superb contemporary Italian cuisine.

I also love Uskudar. There's also Café d'Alsace - at bit of a walk up at 88th & 2nd. You can grab the 1st Ave. bus uptown and the 2nd Ave bus on the way home.

      2. Cascabel on Second Ave @80th for great Mexican food.

        1. +1 for Cafe Boulud.

For Italian (not Italian American "red sauce"), I love Sandro's on 81st near 2nd. Great pastas, especially the bucatini all'amatriciana, which is the best I've ever had (including Batali's).

Definitely go to Two Little Red Hens for cupcakes. Best in the city. My fave is the Brooklyn Blackout.

          1. haven't been for years, but Malaga, 73 bet 1st and York, was excellent spanish food. Dumpy place, but great stuff. Mariscada with green sauce, shrimp ajillo, appys, red and white sangrias. Try it.

On 77th St and 2nd Avenue is Alloro- delicious Italian but pricey- good for a celebration.

Also like Blackout cupcake at red hen
Land used to be my fav in the area, but last 3 times curry was watery. I like the curry puffs.
If willing to walk a little bit, good chicken at Pio Pio with great spicy sauce. it is on 90th and 1st, not that far.

does anyone know about petaluma or atlantic grille

                      1. re: bomberrwa

atlantic grill is a very good seafood place.

                        1. re: bomberrwa

Love Atlantic Grill...little bit more upscale and expensive than other local spots. They also have a nice brunch. Haven't been to Petaluma in forever, but we used to like it.

                        1. On 69th and First... Cafe Evergreen. Decent Chinese... but best for dim sum. You could make a meal of the dim sum. Also.. decent wine. And you could pick up lots of good food at Agata and Valentina on 1st and 79th.
