Restaurant near American Girl place for tomorrow!

I am running down to Chicago tomorrow and wanted to get some recommendations for lunch near American Girl place. Also is there a good Italian grocer anywhere nearby? I only live a few hours away so I can bring a cooler to bring back some things.

Sorry for the late request and appreciate any suggestions. I prefer something Italian, Tapas or just generally fantastic, prefer to avoid Asian.

  1. Cafe Spiaggia is right next door basically. It would do you very nicely.
It is not specifically Italian, but Fox and Obel is not too far and depending on what you are looking for might serve your needs.

Cafe Spiaggia is a good recommendation for Italian and they're open for lunch (and dinner) 7 days.

If you go to Fox & Obel and you're driving, note that they validate parking. Drive past the market on Illinois, then look on the left for the entrance to the parking ramp down into the high-rise on the same block. Follow the orange signs to the F&O dedicated spaces. When you take the nearest elevator up to street level and walk outside, you'll be right across the street from F&O. Get your parking ticket validated at the customer service counter just past the checkout lines.

Fox & Obel is great - the very best of everything, including wonderful baked goods, meats, prepared foods, etc - but it is not specifically Italian. If you'd like an Italian grocer, Panozzo's is in the South Loop about two miles south of American Girl. I think they're open 10-4 on Sundays but you may want to call ahead to double-check.

Thanks for the tips of the parking and directions. I am really looking forward to going tomorrow. This might even be better than getting your dolls hair done at American Girl place :) I will save the Italian grocer suggestion for the next time I am in the area as I am fairly sure my husband will not be up to that much shopping in one day.

Fox & Obel looks fantastic! Thanks for the recommendation I will definitely be doing some shopping there. I recently moved to the Midwest so I really have no clue what Chicago has to offer.

      3. Mike Ditka's is almost across the street from American Girl---across Michigan and half a block west on Chestnut, just past the big church at Michigan and Chestnut.
