Best oxtail dishes in Manhattan?
My husband is a huge oxtail fan, and I'd like to take him someplace for oxtail on his birthday this week. We used to go to Momofuku Noodle Bar for the oxtail stew, and he loved it.
Any new favorite oxtail dishes? Would like mid-range pricing...$15-$30 per entree. But am also happy with a cheap Asian oxtail dish, as long as the atmosphere is still pretty cool.
thanks!

Any Jamaican/Caribbean joint should have Oxtail on the menu...I've never had a bad oxtail at these places.

For a very good low-end oxtail dish, the stewed oxtail at Xian Famous Foods is excellent, but there's no atmosphere there.

Braised oxtails in peanut sauce (Kare-Kare) is amazing. You can get your fix at Grill 21. Ask for sauteed shrimp paste on the side.

Grill 21 does make good oxtail ( kare kare) and definitely with shrimp paste (alamang). I've had better in Queens and home made, but it has the right taste, and is the best in Manhattan.
I've also had a good Oxtail stew at a Korean restaurant at 32 W. 32nd st. and the oxtail at the
place of bad reviews ( Golden Crust) is actually very good.

Just found a little Jamaican spot in Spanish Harlem: Walkers Woods Caribbean American restaurant (2135 2nd Ave at 110th St). Not a special occasion place (more like a take your food and run place) but a great spot if you're looking for everyday oxtails in brown sauce with outstanding rice and peas cooked with coconut milk + sweet plantains. The best part? It's $10.
