Hey Folks,

Was looking for some help finding a good resto near the Kerasotes ICON on Roosevelt for tonight. Any type and price level are fine, just looking for something tested and delicious. Thanks for your help!

  1. The theaters are just west of Clark and you'll be walking east a few blocks for all of these suggestions except White Palace:

    Chicago Curry House (Indian) -
    Eleven City Diner (diner/deli) -
    Gioco (Italian) -
Lou Malnati's (deep-dish pizza) - (8th and State location, phone ahead with your pizza order to avoid waiting 30-45 minutes while seated for your pizza to bake)
White Palace Grill (24-hour greasy spoon) -
Hackney's (French dip roast beef sandwiches, onion brick) -
    Oysy (sushi) -

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll be driving and taking advantage of the free ICON parking, so the radius is a little larger than walking distance. I've heard great things about Gioco, and I'm Indian, so Chicago Curry house would be interesting to try.

I am mercilessly choosy when it comes to dining out. It is definitely something I wish I could be more ambivalent about. Any suggestions for that one-of-a-kind resto around the area? I'm and Old Town/River Norther, just don't have a good working knowledge of South Loop.

      Thanks again!

I know exactly what you mean, but there isn't anything that I would consider in that category in the immediate vicinity. I would have recommended Opera but it closed recently. There are one-of-a-kind places like Mercat a la Planxa and Custom House Tavern, but they're a bit further than the ones I mentioned. If you don't mind driving and re-parking, then those would be candidates. You could also go to Greek Town for you-know-what.

Thanks again, I think Mercat is what we'll do. Although, you mention Greek Town and I think of Artopolis, a good Spanakopita with pasta salad, and a glass of wine. Yes.

I think two of the best restaurants in the area are Custom House ( ) and South Coast ( South Coast is down on 18th and Michigan, but you said you have your car and parking isn't too bad down there.

Also, in addition to the places nsxtasy named are:
          Jimmy Greens (Bar Food) -
Flo and Santos (Bar Food - Polish and Pizza) -
          Tapas Valencia -

          Custom House Tavern
          500 S Dearborn, Chicago, IL 60605

          Tapas Valencia
          1530 S. State Street, Chicago, IL 60605

I used to really like Gioco but the most recent time I was there I thought the food was just passable, and the service was horribly slow. I think that we were the only party in the room who did not have a Groupon. Perhaps if I was only paying 1/2 price it would have been ok.

Ditto as to Custom House, the service is slow. If you are going to the movies, that could be an issue. Food is ok, but certainly not one-of-a-kind.
Curry House may not have the best Indian food in the city but it's a decent neighborhood restaurant. It specialize in Nepalese dishes. In your shoes, I'd go there or Oysy.
