Veggie friendly near the Verizon Center?

I'm looking for a pre-theater dinner on Sunday. Anything under say $20 a person would be welcome. Thanks and good hunting!

I've had good meals at Cafe Atlantico, Jaleo, Rasika, CoCo Sala, Oyamel, Matchbox and Zaytinya. We normally order 5 tapas, or 3-4 with dessert for 2 people to share.

You are not going to get that much food for $20/person at any of those places.

I would recommend Matchbox for pizza or as cute_diva recommended Vappianos.

If you are willing to walk over to Busboys and Poets, they have lots of veggie options.

$20 per person? You'll most likely have to do fast-casual. Try the new Merzi (sp?). While I don't love Nando's, that's an option. Teaism is another one.

I would also suggest Vapiano's. Elyssa. Matchbox might be hard to get out of for under $20, especially with tax/tip. I've went to Wok and Roll a few times and actually thought it was pretty good.

Nando's might be tough for a vegetarian - it's primarily a chicken place. I second Vapiano's and Teaism. Both will have a good selection for vegetarians. Also consider going to Tangysweet for fro yo.
I tried Merzi a few weeks ago...eh. You have to order kind of carefully, wouldn't recommend it.

Where do you get he's looking for vegetarian? Nando's actually has quite a few non-meat options. I could make a meal out of their side dishes.

Matchbox isn't that hard if people are sharing pizzas etc.

Well, yes, one pizza. But who only gets one pizza and nothing else there?

The poster said $20/person. That's $40 for 2, $60 for 3 etc. An order of 6 mini burgers (which comes with the potato strings) + a large sausage and sundried tomato pizza comes to $32 (before tip and tax). In my opinion that seems like more than enough food for 2 people.

This is similar to what my bf and I order (plus maybe a beer if we are in the mood) when we go to Matchbox and it's always enough food.

none of those items are vegetarian, but you can easily share pizzas and salads at Matchbox.

Oops forgot about the veggie aspect. But it is the same amount of money for their salads and the veggie pizza (which is my personal favorite), if not a little less.

For that price range, I would suggest Vappianos. You can get a pasta or pizza for about $12.

Matchbox would work if you can get in - it can get busy. Also, the lounge at PS7 is a great deal earlier in the evening - they have some good veggie options in the lounge

If you end up near Red Velvet Cupcakery, try the vegan Black Velvet cupcake. I think it may be the best cupcake they make.

Jaleo is my favorite. Go for the spinach with raisins and apples, baby wrinkled potatoes, cucumber stuffed with tomato, cheese, and walnuts, beet salad with citrus, garlic mushrooms, grilled asparagus, roasted red peppers and eggplant.
