metro brasserie
went there tonight for the first time
it is across the street from FnB and Cowboy Ciao so i have always overlooked it, however wanted to try a new place
very appealing interior stylish and inviting, great patio outside however tonight was too cold
had the onion tart and baked brie for appetizers, the brie came with honey and granny smith apples was good, the onion tart was more of a flat bread, but had a ton of gruyere and was very very good...not quite as good as coup de tarte perhaps but complete different in terms of crust, however similar flavor profiles (hope that made sense)
main courses were the mrs with moule frites, which was gigantic, the mussels were huge and fresh, with a good sauce, the frites were amazing to say the least with the sauce they gave - worth the price of admission and they again were a gigantor (yes gigantor) portion, which was a white sauce - for 18 was an amazing deal IMO, and the duck was good however a bit dry, the pieces that were not dry were excellent however i would probably not ordred it again
came with brussel spounts and a fig reduction...which was a bit thick, if there was a bit of demi on it would have been amazing, again the portion was huge, most duck i have gotten when ordered, loved the portions
had a apple bread pudding dessert, with cowoby ciao right next door, the bread pudding could not stand up but was certainly not bad
solid menu, great portions...good happy hour prices - worth a visit for sure if you have never tried it
house wine is a cab, however very sweet not cabish - less expensive cab is pretty good, more expensive pino was just ok, but the pino minuete? was pretty solid
hope you like the review

re: athewinn
I really liked Metro too. Our first visit had been the week it opened, and then 5-6 times after that, but hadn't been in a while. We used to sit at the bar, order oysters, pate, poutine, or the flammekueche/Alsation onion tart, and always had great service (and cocktails) from Cathy and Josh.
They closed 2/23:
