Black Tie Dinner for 80, near Convention Center/Gaslamp District

I need to plan a black tie dinner for 80 in May. I'm looking for a restaurant with a private dining room (or a private club--I'll worry about finding a sponsor later!) that could accommodate that many guests, no more than a brief coach bus ride from the convention center area.

Great suggestions above. I would add Mr. A's as it has some of the best views in the downtown San Diego area and is, in my opinion, excellent for the mix of service, food, and view factor.

University Club would be my first pick - great views, private as all heck, and they redid the menu a while back. Tried it for an event we held there and found it chowable.

The US Grant might work - they are hosting our gala this weekend and can help with menu planning.

We've used the Westgate Hotel before.

All are close to the Convention Center.

The opposite direction, across the bay, and accessible by ferry Pehoe's might work. Others will need to vouch (or not vouch) for the food however

Peohe's...hands down one of the best views on the Bay. Great onion rings and happy hour cocktails, skip the rest

What about Molly's in the Marriott Marina, it's pretty consistent and the food is good even if it is in a hotel.

Also, I think the JBar in the Solamare can be used for private functions. This is a Kimpton property where food is more important than many hotels. JSix is the resatuarant in the hotel and they provide the food for JBar I believe.

Peohe's does have a great view.

Plus it has that "if the movie Scarface was filmed in San Diego it would have been a location for the movie Cocaine vibe".

Which in case you are wondering, is a good thing in my book.

Not sure how a coach bus would make it there, however. ;-)
