Food at Hamilton's Tavern?

aloha925 Jan 27, 2011 11:07 AM

I've enjoyed my share of beers there, but never tried the food. I looked at the menu online and it looks a bit interesting.. Is it any good, or am I better off eating elsewhere? Any favorite dishes there? Thanks.

It's not bad as far as pub grub goes - basically everything is either fried or grilled on a flattop.

In general I like it as pub grub, but they have a habit of putting raspberry bbq sauce on a lot of items , or cramming way too many ingredients on the staple items (burgers/dogs/sammys)

That's what I thought when I saw the menu. Seems like everything either has the sauce on it, or is way over-stuffed with too many flavors.

I personally think the pork sandwich is fantastic. The burgers & the rest are just ho-hum.

It's OK. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there, but if I'm already sitting there having a pint or two it works.

When they very first opened I thought the food was pretty good, but it seems like it's gone downhill since. The beer cheese soup used to be one of my favorite things there, and last time I tried it it tasted like nacho sauce with warm beer added.

Kinda rough pub-grub that's trying to hard to be "fancy"- Like MrKrispy said, cramming too many ingredients onto their staple items is really a problem for them there.

I think they had a different person taking care of the menu when they first started the food, he left and I am not sure if Blair got someone else or did everything himself....regardless, the menu is kind of weird now. I still think Hamilton's kicks ass (when I can get a seat), but the menu definitely took an odd turn a couple of years ago.

The food on Second Saturdays is different, usually lots of BBQ and braised types of dishes.

I like the grilled cheese sandwiches a lot with the Blind Tiger, Ninja Witchfyre and Fancypants being my favorites. Fast Nachos aren't bad for sharing either.

The food on 2nd Saturdays is usually really good as well. And occasionally Josh friendly.

The pulled venison sliders were pretty good. :-)
