Fabulous Cantonese

I am a typical New York food snob and never like the Chinese food outside of NYC unless I'm in Asia. But Ocean City was fantastic. We had scallops with XO sauce (as good as in Hong Kong and much more generous), Fried rice with Salt fish (good but a little too bland), Rock Cod and Eggplant casserole (excellent) , Watercress with fuyu --fermented tofu--(very good), and a cold bitter melon appetizer which was marvelous. It is rather pricey by NYC standards, but truly wonderful--I can't wait to go back, I've planned a trip to Portland largely around a return visit this summer.
A heartfelt request: please, please don't go there and ask for Americanized "Chinese" food, for gooey lemon chicken, and sesame chicken, and noodles with sesame sauce (made with peanut butter), and all the other standard fare almost of all of which was invented entirely for American tastes and which the staff and Chinese customers would drop dead before eating. Get what they get, widen your horizons, and you will be very happy!

Many of us think this is the best in town. As a NYC transplant, it was a long wait for it, but I love it. Their dimsum is the best in town too, IMO.

I agree with JillO...the best dim sum in town. I moved here from Vancouver BC and have been waiting a very long time for good dim sum :)

Agree re: dimsum...I did a back-to-back Wong King's versus Ocean City comparison and found Ocean City to be a little more refined, less oily (it's all relative!), fresher ingredients.

I agree with you that Ocean City offers one of the best options for dimsum in Portland. But dont be too snobby about NYC dimsum :). The best places I've had dimsum outside of canton/hongkong are in richmond and LA/san gabriel. Before the chinese take over in hongkong, some of the best chefs in hongkong left to vancouver and LA. I also find Toronto to have a wider range of the different authentic restaurants. I remember one that I went to over 6 years ago and their whole menu theme revolved around tofu skin. and they had over 50 dishes.
