soul food

Can anyone recommend some good soul food restaurants in the DFW area? The closer to Denton the better, but I would be grateful for any and all suggestions. Thanks!

Not close to Denton but definitely worth the drive is, Sweet Georgia Brown on Ledbetter Drive in Oak Cliff. Easy to get to by taking 75 south to 45 south and off at Ledbetter to soul food heaven. Don't go on a Sunday after church. Waaaaay to busy at that time. Saturday lunch is your best time. Read the Yelp reviews:

I would second that. It's worth the drive, all though a really long one from Denton :-)

Let us know what you thought if you go. And a tip: if you don't drink "sweet tea", bring your own artificial sweetener for the unsweetened tea. They only have sugar. I bring my own Splenda. And, come hungry. Very hungry!

No where near Denton, I love Brooklyn's. Great jazz good food. South Dallas Cafe is good. Po' Melvins for a caucasion take on soul food. For an upscale look at soul food try Hatties in Bishop Arts.

Thanks for the recommendations! I thought something near Denton was probably too much to hope for.
