South End American-Chinese Food
Hi all,
Looking to order some decent American Chinese food to be delivered to the south end tomorrow night. I looked through the boards and saw a few posts from several years ago suggesting that Shanghai and New Shanghai are decent options. Any other ideas? Yum Mee Chinese food is not an option.
Thanks,
Blue

The South End is a Chinese Food wasteland for sure. When I lived there, and had cravings for Chinese take out, I would either take the Silver Line to Chinatown, pick it up and bring it back, or use Dining In to order from Jumbo or New Shanghai.
I was SO sad when Ming's Cafe closed down. That was my walking-distance, go to place for a long time.

I don't know so much as to the American-Chinese part, but as noted below New Shanghai delivers to the S.End and they do have some of those classic dishes. I also occasionally get delivery from Jo Jo Taipei (yes, amazingly they deliver to the S.End) and they have a few of those dishes on their menu as well, though I have not had them. PF Changs is probably a great option, delivery available on GrubHub or Foodler, but probably pretty spendy for crab rangoons and the like.

As American-Chinese joints go, I like Shanghai Restaurant, but I have been disappointed with their delivery food the couple of times I have ordered it in a pinch: it seems even blander than what they serve on-premise.
I'm a big fan of the dual menu at New Shanghai, a name-confounding combo of very good traditional Sichuan and traditional Beijing cuisine, but I have never gotten delivery from there. Chinatown is so close, it's hard for me to do delivery from places I actually like. If we have to get delivery for whatever excuse, we're more likely to get Thai from Chili Duck, which isn't fabulous, but isn't terrible.
You are correct to avoid getting food from anything American-Chinese looking that is physically based in the South End.
