Has Chiado changed in the last few years?

CocoTO Jan 25, 2011 12:53 PM

I've been following the thread on "Best GTA Restaurant" (great idea) and see Chiado consistently. I've been there a number of times, but not in the last few years, because the last time we went I found the plates "heavy" ... I don't know how to describe my experience other than comparing it to other experiences eating at Portuguese restos, where they're heavy on potato and uninteresting vegetables. I visited their website (because of the consistent references to Chiado on the other thread) and everything looks "Splendido" or "George" - ish in terms of presentation. Have they refined their kitchen/presentation?

No one ever responded to this thread but I am also looking for current feedback on Chiado. It seems like a consistent recommendation on here. It is featured on Groupon today (was surprised to see it) but with 2 options, one for a $60 worth of food at a discount, and the other for a 5 course "tasting" menu (what Groupon calls it). Wondering which option would be the better bet and if it is worth while going.

I've eaten at Chiado last September and again in April and had a great meal both times. I didn't find it heavy at all. I just bought a tasting menu coupon so I'll check it out and hope for a meal as good as the other two I had there.
