Interesting comfort food (NOT Italian) near ROM/Yorkville?

Meeting a couple of friends for dinner on a Saturday coming up (post-winterlicious). One is preggers and craving comfort food. I'd rather not go too pubby (she suggested the Pilot). Any recs?

    This really does depend on how you define "comfort food" and how fancy you want to go but here are some suggestions:

      Check out the menu at Caren's Wine Bar on Cumberland. There's some good comfort food on it. http://www.carenswineandcheese.com

            Third Caren's mac and cheese (really a penne and cheese, but who cares?). Really nice with the sparkling rose they have by the glass. Adding pancetta to the mac is just gilding the lily...

              Add a fourth from me. I really love the Shrimp Tagliatelle, not as rich as the Mac and Cheese, but nice and salty. I just feel Caren's is a bit pricey for what it is, I don't know I find I'm always surprised when the bill comes.

                  Same here. I'm sure the rent there is INSANE considering the front and back patio they have as well for warmer weather.

          Do you mind going to Harbord Street? If not, then 93 Harbord is always a great option in that area for comforting food. As long as one considers Middle Eastern flavours comforting, of course. :)

            Harbord is fine. Pretty much anywhere within a 10-15 minute walk of the subway is good. I just don't want to be transferring to a streetcar or bus to get to dinner.
