Midoriya- New Japanese market in Williamsburg

Silverjay Jan 25, 2011 09:08 AM

It's at 167 North 9th Street, between Bedford and Driggs. It's a mini version of Sunrise Mart really, with standard snacks, cup ramen, condiments, frozen foods, cooking ingredients, and Japanese cookware. They have a small selection of fresh veggies like nira, gobo, ginger- stuff like that. In terms of fresh foods, they have onigiri, pre-made sushi, and two brands of tofu. They seem like they are planning to add more stuff. They also have a cooler with Japanese beer, including some craft beers.... Oh, and be still my beating liver, they also sell Takara brand of 6.5% chu-hai.....Have Japanese bangumi DVD's for rental as well....I think this space was a pet store before. It's a couple doors up from Pierogi gallery.

Heard that they were coming to the hood, but did not realize that they were open. Have to go check it out.

It's adorable and the lighting teleports you straight to Tokyo via a Gursky photograph.
