Real soul food in triangle reigion

beltline Jan 25, 2011 03:29 AM

My mom is coming to town she would love to eat some real down home soul food. I've taken her to buffet place in garner which was awful. I've been to mama dips in chapel hill which was ok.

I would love to find some real southern cooking willing to travel hour if need be

Joyce and Family and Larry's are buffet, so she might enjoy being able to try a larger array of food. Southern Flavors is not buffet, has a set menu with daily specials. Their fried chicken is better than what Joyce makes IMO!

I've never been, but I have heard good things about Joyce and Family in Fuquay.

I wouldn't recommend Mama Dips. The town would most likely be Durham. I'd suggest you look into Dame's Chicken & Waffles, Current Cafeteria, or Andrew's Kountry Kitchen. You can read reviews on carpedurham.com

Have heard really good things about Dames but have yet to make it there. Have eaten at Southern Flavor, a small casual restaurant on Raleigh Blvd in Raleigh that had good oxtails and fried chicken. And been meaning to try Larry's Southern Kitchen on Tryon in Raleigh, reviews have looked good for it...
