Half Moon Bay - Monday group dinner for work
I've been tasked with finding a restaurant for dinner on a Monday night in Half Moon Bay. My coworkers and I will be a group of 8 on a short business retreat. I think we're meant to have a "nice" work dinner without totally breaking the bank, probably about $30/person without drinks considered. Unfortunately, my boss doesn't realize that many the few "nice" restaurants are closed on Mondays. We don't need something professional, and actually will be looking to blow off a bit of steam after a day of solid business talk.
Feedback on atmosphere and quality of food would be great. The options I am looking at now include:
Mezze Luna – Italian http://www.mezzalunabythesea.com/dinner_menu.html
Miramar Beach – Seafood, Steaks, Pasta http://miramarbeachrestaurant.com/menu/dinner/
Half Moon Bay Brewing Co – seafood and beer http://www.hmbbrewingco.com/contact/c...
I also looked at Cafe Gibraltar and La Costanera. They're closed Mondays. I might throw in the towel and take everyone to Flying Fish Grill. Love their fish tacos, but definitely a notch below the type of restaurant we're hoping for. Is Barbara's Fish Trap similar in vibe and food options or nicer?

Flavor might be a good option - they're slightly on the casual side but still nice and the food (I've now tried almost every item on the dinner menu) is delicious and nicely presented.

Thanks for mentioning this. I was not aware that a new restaurant had opened in that location. Just had lunch there today and I think I have a new favorite place for a great burger.
The restaurant is quite nice inside, stylish but not over done. Since it is on the east side of Highway 1, it doesn't have much of a view, but you can see Princeton Harbor.
They also have a short but very interesting wine list with everything available by the glass.

Not sure if a party of 8 would work, but Cetrella will do private functions on Mondays. We had a lovely meal there a year or so ago.

Take a look at Pasta Moon on Main Street. They are open on Mondays. They are quite nice, although depending on how people order, it could go above the $30/budget.

There is also another pizza/Italian restaurant on Main Street that has been recommended here that I have not tried.

Barbara's Fish Trap is about the same level as Flying Fish. Yummy food, but no frills. Fish Trap is no reservations (so you will wait) and cash only also.
Ketch Joanne is also in the Princeton Harbor, if you want that local feel. It's funky, but a bit more of an enclosed restaurant than the Fish Trap. The food is mixed though.
I haven't been to Mezze Luna or the Miramar for a long time. My memories are not that great. Although the Miramar has a beautiful location right on the beach. Great place for a sunset cocktail.

More kitschy. They have a lot of wooden booths and paneling, kind of like being on a ship. Their menu is old school with dishes like Crab Louie.
It's a fun place, but I do not remember any really spectacular dishes there. I think of it as more of a brunch or lunch place.
I still like Pasta Moon for a nice dinner.
After re-reading your post, if you are looking to blow off steam, the HMB Brewing Co has a sports bar ambiance and some outdoor tables by the fire pits. I've only had drinks there so I can't speak for the food.

re: pamf
I second the Pasta Moon recommendation for several reasons. I've been there on business occasions; they can put your group into one of their private rooms and restrict the menu selection, if necessary, to accommodate your budget. The food and service are lovely. Try the squash-filled ravioli with the amaretto cookie crumbs.
