Wedding rehearsal dinner ideas around Queen and Parliament, Toronto

Hello all,

I'm looking for tips on restaurants to rent out for a rehearsal dinner in early summer of this year within walkign distance or short ride to the Berkeley Church in Toronto (that's the Queen and Parliament area). I've searched chowhound and haven't found anything pertinent.

These are our specs:
- 30-35 people
- rent a large private area or the whole spot
- cozy atmosphere -- not too formal
- bistro type menu (but actually, we are not too picky, so fire away!)
- $70-100 pp, drinks included

So far, we've looked at the Gilead Bistro and it looks great but is of course fairly pricey. I just would like to see if anyone has other tips given the location which I'm not familiar with.

Thanks so much, fellow chowhounders.

  1. Mengrai Thai is around the corner - Richmond St. and Ontario - about 250m and a 4 minute walk. The dining area is nice and if I recall correctly, there are different areas that you could occupy as a group. The only down-side is that this is not a bistro-type menu. It's the only decent option nearby that I know of.

Weezie's, you'll have to ask if you can buy out. I don't know. But it's 500m away. And bistroish.

Fusilli is 750m away on Queen. Can't tell you how that is, but I think Googs on the board likes it a lot. Probably pretty small. Italian.

There are more if you are willing to drive, but it depends on how far. 5 mins? 10 mins?

    1. weezie's is very nearby (king st) and fits all your criteria quite well, but you'd be taking over their entire space and i'm not sure how they'd feel about that.

      1. Hey rr,

I'm getting married at the Berkeley later on this year, please let me know how you find the food and the overall experience! After Nathan Isberg left the Berkeley catering to open his own place, I'm really hoping the food hasn't gone downhill.

I wouldn't count on a great place near the venue to be honest. Here's a thread I started last week about this very topic, some decent suggestions thus far:

Thanks for the suggestions so far, especially Weezie's.

Mike, congrats. I didn't know about the change in chefs, but the food was quite good, or at least I thought it was quite good, at the tasting that we had.

And thanks for the link to the thread!

What dishes did you try out that you thought were the best?
