81st birthday dinner

hto44 Jan 24, 2011 08:23 AM

My Dad is about to turn 81 and has requested either Italian or steak. His usual suspects: Delfino's, Capital Grill, Oak Room, Legal's, Lo Conte's, Pomodoro. I threw Legal's in there because it is one of the places he frequents and to give you an idea of what pleases his palate. We would like to try something different while staying in the same spirit of what he enjoys. Also, convenient parking is a must. He has had one knee replaced and desperately needs the second one done so walking is difficult. Any thoughts.....? Oh, and it will be early dinner (5ish) on Sunday.

One option: Summer Shack. The access at Alewife is quite good--very few stairs, easy parking, flat, smooth parking lot (I have so been there with my mom). There is also a hanicapped elevator if you need it. And the standard fish dishes are great. If you call ahead, request a chair or a booth for you dad, so he isn't sitting with no back suuport on one of the benches.

Are you sure you want to recommend lobster that's been fried in pain?

Whenever someone says "convenient parking" my mind instantly goes to Gaslight in the South End with their free lot next door. He can get a very nice steak there if he's willing to consider French food. The steak frites is just great, with a nice bearnaise sauce on the side. That's what I hope to be eating when I'm 81.

Davios might be a good choice- either in town (valet) or in the burbs.

How about Grill 23, Harvest, or Bistro du Midi?

They don't open until 5:30 on Sundays, but Rialto has parking underneath, elevators, comfortably spaced seating and good (meaning quiet) acoustics, which is something I always care about with my 84 year old father -- who loves Rialto for all those reasons as well as the food.

Thank you for all the suggestion but my Dad is a creature of habit and has requested that we go to the Capital Grille so decision made!

My thought is "He's 81. He can do what what he wants!" LOL
