Good eats near Children's Fairyland, Oakland?

  • 9

What's good and fairly kid friendly that's not too far from Children's Fairyland in Oakland?

Jong Ga House seems to be right around the corner, but Sura seems to be a slightly better bet.

Shan Dong sounds like something I might be interested in, always in the mood for good noodles and dumplings. How's the parking there on a weekend? How do their dumplings and noodles compare to San Tung in SF?

Any comments on these? Would welcome other suggestions, doesn't have to be Korean and Chinese.

  1. True Burger is across the street and a couple of blocks away. Luka's isn't much further and Bakesale Betty's II is across the street from Luka's.

    1. Trueburger and Sidebar are in close proximity.

      1. Enssaro is quite close. Zza's is very kid friendly. If you walk over to Broadway there's Luka's.

Parking in Oakland Chinatown is usually pretty tough on Saturdays (or any day).

        1. For a solid (if unexciting) and reasonably-priced burger, there's TrueBurger nearby. Pretty decent fries, chili, etc., too.

I'm a fan of Shan Dong's dumplings and buns (get the pork and vegetable ones), and their hand-cut noodles are not bad (just don't get anything with a sweet sauce), but there are definitely detractors on this board.

I too am a fan of Shan Dong's ditto on the buns and dumplings but not that big of a fan of their noodles. But the Buns travel well.

          2. The staff at my dentist's office (about a block from Fairyland) really like Bacchesso for lunch. They said it's very reasonable, but I personally haven't had a chance to try it yet.

It's at 248 Grand Avenue across from the entrance to Fairyland so it would be closer than Sidebar & Zza's & the same parking space.

http://bacheesos.net/ says weekend brunch buffet between 10 & 4 for for $8.90 + tax (limited to 2 trips

            1. Jong Ga House, Enssaro, and Sidebar were the first three places that came to mind for me. All three are worth a visit. I actually don't remember Sura being that much better than Jong Ga. Boot and Shoe service is only a few blocks up Grand (but not open for lunch - I'm guessing you're going to be there during the day?)
