Restaurant with private party room near Toms River

I'm looking for recommendations for a restaurant to have a family party for about 50 people. Would like a private room, buffet space preferably, with enough elbow room to mill around, as it is a family reunion of sorts, wtih about 6 babies and young kids invited. Just don't want seating at long rectangular tables, where you're kind of stuck in the same spot the whole time.

  1. Try Jimmy C's in Downtown TR on Washington St. went to Party there last week and had a blast...They have a back room that they use for a Party /Comedy Club...its pretty big and they have a stage which we used for karaoke ..we had a buffet with sushi added which was good and they have a full bar back there too.. the staff was great and the place was clean.

    1. Keep in mind that many restaurants in NJ do not have liquor licenses, so if having drinks provided by the venue is important, that will limit your options. Otherwise, it's BYO.

When will your party be? If it's not during a busy day/time and not during the summer season, you might be able to buy out a local restaurant for several hours. Do make sure that they have experience serving 50 people at once via a buffet rather than just table ordering/serving. If this is an option, let us know and others may have more ideas.

Jimmy C's, mentioned above, serves alcohol. The best restaurant in these parts is Bistro 44 (sort of across the street from Jimmy C's) which does not serve alcohol and does not (as far as I know!) have a separate room, but I think could handle 50 people if you take over the whole place.

I offer the following as a brief list of possibilities in the area (with banquet / party rooms), not as recommendations:

      - Toms River: Holiday Inn on Route 37

      - Toms River: Howard Johnsons on Route 37

      - Toms River: Jules Restaurant & Catering on Hooper Ave

      - Toms River: Lobster Shanty -- closed until end of March 2011 for renovation

      - Lakewood: Hilton Garden Inn on Route 70

      - Brick: Simko's Grill on Brick Blvd -- I'm not 100% sure on this one

      Bistro 44
44 Washington St Ste 2C, Toms River, NJ 08753

nj - B44 does have a separate room that they refer to as the "stage" (because it is is elevated) which seats about twenty people. You are correct however that if they want to seat 50 they would have to take up the main dining room. BTW, +1 for B44. I also agree with rmurphy that Eagle Ridge is not a bad choice. I've attended several events there and they do a decent job. I would however pass on Artisan's and the Lobster Shanty as I've never enjoyed the food at either restaurant.

      2. -Eagle Ridge Golf Course In Lakewood (near Toms River border) does a good job with private parties of that size.

-Artisan's Brew Pub in Toms River is always a good place for parties of that size.

-Lobster Shanty in Pt. Pleasant...but I'd stay away from the Toms River one.

        Good luck!
